Adventure Doesn'tHave to Be Extreme

You don't need to climb Everest to have an adventure. We should probably get that out of the way immediately.

Somewhere along the line, getting outside became strangely competitive.

Higher. Further. Faster. More remote. More expensive. More extreme.

And while we have enormous respect for people doing extraordinary things outdoors, that isn't the only definition of adventure.

Sometimes it's just the other road

Think about how many places you drive past. That little road you've wondered about. The reservoir you've never walked around. The campsite an hour from home.

The hill you've seen from the motorway for ten years but never climbed.

You don't need three weeks off work. Sometimes you need Saturday. That's something we want UNROUTED to celebrate.

Accessible adventure.

The kind normal life actually has room for.

You don't need all the gear

We're building an outdoor company, so this might sound like a strange thing for us to say.

But you don't need to buy everything before you start. Use what you've got. Borrow something. Pack a coat. Take some food. Charge your phone. Check the weather. Go. You'll work out what you actually need along the way.

And when you do buy something, we'd rather it was something genuinely useful that earns its place in your bag than another thing sitting unused in a cupboard.

That's a philosophy you'll see more of from us.

The best stories aren't always the biggest

Ask somebody about their favourite outdoor memory and it's often surprisingly ordinary.

The camping trip where it wouldn't stop raining. The barbecue that completely failed. Getting lost and accidentally finding somewhere brilliant. Watching the sun go down. The kids getting absolutely covered in mud. That first coffee after waking up freezing in a tent. Those moments aren't memorable because they're extreme. They're memorable because you were there. That's enough for us.

Start small

If you've been telling yourself you need to get outdoors more, don't turn it into another target.

Pick somewhere. Go this weekend. Walk for an hour. Stay for sunset. Take breakfast outside. Drive somewhere you've never been. And if you see a road you've always wondered about? Maybe take it. You never know where it goes.

Adventure doesn't have to be extreme.

It just has to feel like an adventure to you.
